Classroom Schedule

Daily Homework Schedule

Current Assignments: Due to privacy issues, students are identified by their classroom number. Please ask your child for his/her number if you need to identify the assignment, but please do not forget: Homework is the responsibility of the student, not the parent.  Thank you.

Reminder: Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. (Typically, there is no homework assigned on Fridays/weekends.)

READING: THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT.
Research indicates that just twenty to thirty minutes of reading a day will increase student reading levels. (
http://www.justtake20.org/) Students may read books, magazines, comic books, stories to younger siblings, newspapers, or graphic novels. Students: check out our "Cool Links" to find fun stories to read. You may also check out books from the classroom library.  See Mrs. Talcott for the checkout sheet.
The primary requirement is to
READ EVERY NIGHT. Each student has been given a spiral notebook in which to log specific information about what he/she read. Students: Please copy the following into your notebook and fill it out:
Date:
Title:
Name of Chapter: (if it is a chapter book)
Pages: From: ___ To: ___
Summary:
(Write a sentence that tells the main point of what you read.)
(ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO DO THIS ACTIVITY. Parents: You do not have to ensure this is done. If your student does this activity, it will be evident in class.  If it is not evident, we will address it with the student.  Thank you. )

MATH:   "Practice makes perfect" is an old adage that still rings true. The following students need to "practice" individual skills:
Multiplication sequences on a daily basis: Fold a sheet of paper into thirds, lengthwise; write the sequence on the front page; next, open it and write the sequence on the middle page, without looking; last, turn it over to the back and write the sequence, without looking. Put it in your lime green homework folder, return it to school and place it in the student "turn-in" basket before 8am.

Unfinished Classwork for homework:  MUST HAVE TEACHER'S PERMISSION (VARIES FROM DAY TO DAY)

By December, ALL new students will be familiar with narrative writing components: relevant main point, simple subject/simple predicate, as well as correct verb usage...
December assignment: The students have learned to write complete sentences that are grammatically correct. They need to practice the skills taught in class. Therefore, each student, below is required to brainstorm and write three sentences per night. They must do this without assistance. It is not for a grade.
